Company becomes one of the first Layer-1 platforms to implement x402 protocol for payments between AI agents. Launch scheduled for Q1 2026.
November 5, 2025
Venom Foundation, the organization behind the high-performance Venom blockchain (Layer-0 and Layer-1), has announced the integration of the x402 protocol, a new, open-source standard for autonomous payments between AI agents and decentralized services. Venom is set to become one of the first major blockchain platforms to implement this protocol, ushering in a new era of programmable microtransactions in Web3.
The launch of x402 on the Venom network is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. The protocol will enable AI agents, dApps, and autonomous programs to make instant payments for API calls, computational resources, and digital services without the need for traditional accounts, payment forms, or human involvement. Payments will be processed at the protocol level, embedding directly into HTTP requests through the revived HTTP 402 Payment Required status code.
Why This Matters for Mass Adoption
The x402 integration is directly tied to the findings of Venom Foundation's recent study on cryptocurrency adoption barriers in the Asia-Pacific region. The research showed that 68% of respondents consider slow (2-5 days) and expensive (6-7% fees) cross-border transfers the main problem that blockchain can solve. With $700 billion in annual cross-border flows in Asia, this represents $42-49 billion in annual costs from fees alone.
The x402 protocol on Venom blockchain addresses this problem by offering:
- Fees below 0.1% thanks to Venom's dynamic sharding architecture
- Instant settlements with transaction finalization under 1 second
- Programmable payments for AI agents without human involvement
- Compatibility with existing systems through the standard HTTP protocol
Key Implementation Features:
SDK for developers: Venom will provide a simple and intuitive SDK (Software Development Kit), allowing developers to integrate x402 payments into their applications with just a few lines of code. The SDK will support multiple programming languages, including JavaScript, Python, Rust, and Go.
AI agents as economic subjects: With x402, AI assistants will be able to autonomously purchase data, invoke third-party models, pay for computational resources, and order services, all without the need for traditional payment gateways or credit cards.
Compatibility with existing ecosystem: The protocol will be integrated into Venom Wallet, allowing users to set security policies for autonomous payments (limits, counterparty whitelists, budgets).
Stablecoin support: Payments will be made in stablecoins (USDC, USDT, and others), providing stability and predictability for businesses and users.
"The future of the internet is not just data decentralization, but the delegation of complete autonomy to programmed digital agents," comments Christopher Louis Tsu, CEO of Venom Foundation. "Today, AI assistants can recommend goods or services to us, but tomorrow they will be able to purchase them on our behalf using programmable wallets with pre-established security rules. The x402 protocol makes this possible at the internet protocol level. By integrating it into Venom, we are giving developers a simple tool for creating a new generation of autonomous economic applications."
From Web3 to Agent Economy
The implementation of x402 opens new opportunities for the Venom ecosystem:
Autonomous trading for DeFi: AI agents will be able to automatically engage in arbitrage between DEXs, purchase oracle data, and pay for smart contract audits.
Microtransactions for content: Content creators will be able to monetize each article, image, or API call without subscriptions. Users (or their AI agents) will only pay for what they actually consume.
Settlements between IoT devices: Smart gadgets, cars, and drones will be able to automatically pay each other for data, services, and resources.
Simplified cross-border payments: Remittance services will be able to use x402 for instant transfers with minimal fees, solving the problem identified by the Venom Foundation study.
Joining a Global Movement
Venom Foundation is joining a growing consortium of organizations implementing the x402 standard:
- Cloudflare is integrating x402 payment processing into its global CDN network and has launched the NET Dollar stablecoin
- Google has included x402 support in the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) for Google Cloud
- Visa has developed the Trusted Agent Protocol for verifying AI agents making payments
- Coinbase has provided the reference implementation and MCP server for integration with AI assistants
