# Introducing EIP-7702: A Quantum Leap in Ethereum's Account Management

[Vitalik Buterin](https://twitter.com/VitalikButerin?ref=metatalks.ai), with co-authors, introduced [EIP-7702](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-7702?ref=metatalks.ai) as an alternative to [EIP-3074](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-3074?ref=metatalks.ai). The [proposal](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-7702?ref=metatalks.ai) aims to refine Ethereum’s [account abstraction](https://ethereum.org/en/roadmap/account-abstraction/?ref=metatalks.ai) and enable normal Ethereum account addresses to temporarily function as smart contract wallets during a transaction and revert to their original state afterward.

[Ethereum](https://twitter.com/ethereum?ref=metatalks.ai) co-founder [Vitalik Buterin](https://twitter.com/VitalikButerin?ref=metatalks.ai), along with co-authors [Sam Wilson](https://twitter.com/%5FSamWilsn%5F?ref=metatalks.ai), [Ansgar Dietrichs](https://twitter.com/adietrichs?ref=metatalks.ai), and [Matt Garnett](https://twitter.com/lightclients?lang=en&ref=metatalks.ai), have proposed Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) [7702](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-7702?ref=metatalks.ai) as an alternative to EIP-3074, aiming to refine [account abstraction](https://ethereum.org/en/roadmap/account-abstraction/?ref=metatalks.ai) on the Ethereum network.

Unlike [EIP-3074](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-3074?ref=metatalks.ai), which was previously considered for inclusion in the upcoming Pectra upgrade, the new proposal does not introduce new opcodes. Instead, [EIP-7702](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-7702?ref=metatalks.ai) suggests a new transaction type that enables normal Ethereum account addresses to temporarily act as smart contract wallets during a transaction and return to their original state afterward.

Additionally, the new Vitalik's proposal adds quantum resistance and improves compatibility with [EIP-4337](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-4337?ref=metatalks.ai).

Further down the [roadmap](https://notes.ethereum.org/@yoav/AA-roadmap-May-2024?ref=metatalks.ai), a wallet-centric approach to account abstraction is expected to become the standard practice. The new EIP is designed for high compatibility with EIP-4337, [rolled out in March 2023](https://twitter.com/jarrodWattsDev/status/1788119048091574334?ref=metatalks.ai). It leverages existing wallet code and transaction frameworks to minimize disruption and avoid duplication of effort.
